Designated Kitesurf Zone (Summer)
Castelldefels sets aside an official stretch of beach for kitesurfing through the summer season. Great spot to watch the kites or, with your own gear, get out on the wide windy bay.
Castelldefels has one of the widest, flattest beaches near Barcelona, and the sea breeze that builds most afternoons makes it a proper magnet for kitesurfers. Each summer the town fences off an official stretch of sand between Carrer 11 and Carrer 9, keeping the kites well clear of swimmers and sunbathers. From June through mid-September it's where you'll find the boards being rigged and the lines untangled.
Even if you've never touched a kite, it's a good spot to plant a towel and watch. The sails snap and crack overhead, riders skim out across the bay, and the odd big jump draws a small crowd. Bring your own gear and the launch zone is free to use; just check the wind and mind the marked boundaries. Quieter on still mornings, busiest when the afternoon breeze fills in.
