What's on in Mallorca
Mallorca packs an extraordinary amount into one island: the grand capital of Palma with its cathedral and old town, the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the citrus valley of Sóller, the resort bays of Alcúdia and the genteel north around Pollença. It's a short flight from the UK and yet, away from the busiest resorts, it stays surprisingly traditional — which makes its fiestas all the more rewarding.
Summer revolves around patron-saint celebrations and the sea. The Nit de Sant Joan (23 June) lights up Palma's Parc de la Mar with bonfires and concerts; mid-July brings the Verge del Carme maritime processions to Alcúdia, Port d'Andratx and Port de Pollença; and Pollença re-enacts its famous 1550 battle between Moors and Christians at the end of the month. The Chopin Festival fills a Valldemossa monastery with piano recitals, and the Festa des Vermar wine-harvest festival takes over Binissalem in September.
One date stands above them all in 2026: on 12 August, Mallorca lies directly under the path of a total solar eclipse — Spain's first since 1905 — with well over a minute of totality visible from the island. It's the single biggest reason to be here this summer, and it falls in peak season. We've a dedicated guide to watching it.
Palma airport (PMI) is huge and well connected; the vintage train up to Sóller is an attraction in itself, but a hire car is the way to reach the mountain villages, the northern bays and the best eclipse-viewing spots. This is your guide to what's on across Mallorca while you're here.
