Antonio Maya: Figured Lives (Exhibition)
A solo exhibition by painter Antonio Maya at Vélez-Málaga's contemporary art centre, running through October. An easy, drop-in cultural stop for visitors exploring the old town, with no language barrier to enjoy the artwork.
This is a solo show by painter Antonio Maya, running through to October. The Spanish title, Vidas Figuradas, plays on the idea of "figured" or imagined lives, and the work invites you to read a story into each one. You don't need a word of Spanish to get something out of it.
The setting helps. The CAC sits inside Vélez-Málaga's old town, a short wander from the cafés, so it slots neatly into a morning of poking around the historic centre. The galleries are quiet and cool, which is no small thing in high summer. It's a low-key, drop-in sort of stop rather than a grand day out. Doors are open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am, with a long midday break before reopening in the late afternoon, and Sunday mornings only.
