San Miguel Patronal Festival & Dance of the Caballos Fufos
Tazacorte's main patronal fiestas in honour of Saint Michael the Archangel, with a packed September programme of processions, a cattle fair, illuminated floats, horse races, fireworks and the spectacular traditional Danza de los Caballos Fufos (Dance of the Fufos Horses). The day grande falls on 29 September; the full 2026 programme had not yet been published.
Tazacorte goes all in for its patron, Saint Michael, each September, and the town splits its energy between the Villa up the hill and the Puerto down by the sea. The programme runs from mid-September into early October: processions through the streets, horse races, decorated floats, masses and fireworks, with rowing and other contests down at the port.
The one to plan around is the Danza de los Caballos Fufos, the festival's most famous turn, danced on the eve of the 29th. It's a loud, good-humoured spectacle with huge local turnout, and the tradition has unusual roots, brought back by Tazacorte emigrants who'd seen similar horses in the Afro-Cuban carnival of Trinidad, Cuba. The day grande itself falls on 29 September. The full 2026 line-up wasn't out at the time of writing.
