What's on in Vélez-Málaga
Vélez-Málaga is the working capital of the Axarquía, the hilly, agricultural eastern corner of Málaga province. It sits a little inland behind the resort of Torre del Mar, an old town of churches and a hilltop Moorish castle, surrounded by avocado and mango groves and subtropical farmland. This is everyday Andalusia — markets, tapas bars and local life rather than holiday gloss.
Its cultural calendar runs to street poetry and music nights such as Ladies of the Night, and gallery shows including Antonio Maya's Figured Lives exhibition. Here's what's on while you're here.
