San Isidro, in Granadilla de Abona, is one of the most genuinely mixed towns in the south of Tenerife, and Granadilla Convive is the day the council builds around that. Twelve communities bring their music, dance, crafts and — the part everyone actually comes for — their cooking, into one square for a full day.
What to expect. Monday 12 October, from 11:00 to 20:00 in the Plaza de la Cultura, free throughout. Live music, batucadas, folk groups, traditional dance, children's workshops, craft stalls and food from the Canaries, Venezuela, Argentina, Romania, Peru, Mali, the Sahara, Colombia, Italy, Uruguay, India and Cuba. Nine hours is a long programme — come hungry and pace yourself.
Practical bit. San Isidro is a few minutes from Tenerife South airport and just inland from El Médano, which makes this an easy one to fold into an arrival or departure day. October on this coast is still shirt-sleeves weather. A hire car is worth having anyway in the south of the island.
