What's on in Arenys de Mar

Arenys de Mar is a fishing town on the Maresme coast north of Barcelona, with a working harbour, a daily fish auction and a long tradition of lace-making and boat-building. Behind the seafront the streets climb to a hilltop cemetery made famous by the poet Salvador Espriu. It's an everyday Catalan town rather than a resort, with commuter trains into the city and a beach that fills with locals in summer.

The town's calendar centres on two festivals: Sant Roc, recognised as a National Heritage festival for its old traditions, and the Sant Zenon Festa Major in summer. For something different, there are guided visits to the Witchcraft Interpretation Centre, a nod to the area's history of witch trials. Here's what's on while you're here.
