Agromercado Farmers Market at Parque Los Álamos
A relaxed Saturday-morning farmers market in a leafy park, with stalls of fresh local seasonal fruit and vegetables plus artisan cheese, baked goods, honey and homemade liqueurs. There are children's activities while you browse, making it an easy authentic stop for visitors and residents alike.
Breña Alta sits up in the green hills above Santa Cruz, and on Saturday mornings the shade of Parque Los Álamos fills with growers bringing in whatever's ripe that week. Expect seasonal local fruit and vegetables, artisan cheese, honey, fresh bread and cakes, and the odd bottle of homemade liqueur to take back to the apartment. The pace is unhurried.
It's a proper local affair rather than a tourist set-piece, which is rather the point. The growers are happy to tell you what's what if your Spanish stretches that far, and there are activities laid on to keep children busy while you wander the stalls. Entry is free. Go early for the best of the produce, and bring a bag.
