What's on in Barlovento

Barlovento sits on the green, wet northern tip of La Palma, the steepest and most thickly forested of the Canaries. This is the windward side, often capped with cloud, where laurel forest, terraces and the man-made La Laguna lake look out over the Atlantic far below. It's a small, rural, walkers' sort of place, far from any resort, where life runs to the rhythm of the land and the sea.

The events are appropriately down-to-earth: the Barlovento village market puts on a special Canary Islands edition, the Gastromar seafood festival celebrates the local shrimp, and there's a historical re-enactment of the Battle of Lepanto. Here's what's on while you're here.
