What's on in Calpe

Calpe is defined by one thing above all: the Peñón de Ifach, a 332-metre limestone rock that
rises straight out of the sea and shelters a long beach on either side. Around it sits a
resort town with a still-working fishing port — the afternoon fish auction runs most
weekdays — and an old quarter of steep, painted lanes climbing the hill behind the front. It
draws sun-seekers and walkers in equal measure, the latter for the marked path up the Peñón
itself. The summer calendar runs to the Moors and Christians pageant and the Virgen de las
Nieves fiestas in August, with the fishermen's Virgen del Carmen procession in July. This is
