What's on in Candelaria

Candelaria is a coastal town on Tenerife's east side built around something bigger than itself: the basilica of the Virgin of Candelaria, patron saint of the whole Canary Islands. A row of bronze Guanche kings lines the seafront square, and pilgrims walk here from across the island, especially in August.

That pilgrimage is the heart of the calendar — the Festival of the Virgin of Candelaria, with a torchlit re-enactment of the Guanche finding of the statue.
