What's on in Cartagena

Cartagena is a working naval port on the Costa Cálida with more history packed into it than almost anywhere on this coast. A Roman amphitheatre sits in the middle of town, dug out from under later buildings, and the old centre rises in tiers of Modernist facades above a deep natural harbour still busy with ships.

The standout is Carthaginians & Romans, a huge late-summer re-enactment that fills the streets with costumed armies and camps. Alongside it, La Mar de Músicas brings world music to the port, free guided visits open up the amphitheatre, and concerts spill out onto boats and the salt flats. Here's what's on while you're here.
