What's on in el Campello

El Campello is a seaside town just up the coast from Alicante, still very much a working fishing port — the boats come in each afternoon to a quayside auction — with a long beach and a watchtower marking the old town. The TRAM light railway links it straight into Alicante in twenty minutes, so it makes an easy, low-key base that feels Spanish rather than packaged. On the headland sits the Illeta dels Banyets, an archaeological site with Iberian and Roman remains and old fish-salting basins cut into the rock.
