El Pinar is the youngest and smallest municipality on El Hierro, the most remote of the Canaries, set among the pine forests that give it its name on the green south of the island. It's two quiet hamlets, Las Casas and Taibique, high up and inland, with a road dropping down to the wild swimming spots and dive sites at La Restinga on the coast. Few tourists make it this far; this is deep, slow, end-of-the-world island life among the trees.
