What's on in Icod de los Vinos

Icod de los Vinos sits in the green, wine-growing north-west of Tenerife and is best known for the Drago Milenario, an ancient dragon tree said to be hundreds of years old that stands at the edge of the old town. Around it is a proper working Canarian town of cobbled streets and bodegas, with the malvasía wine that gives the place its name still made on the slopes above.

That wine is the star of the San Andrés Festival, when the new vintage is tapped and locals go barrel-dragging — sliding down the steep streets on greased wooden boards — while the September festivities honour the Holy Christ of Calvary. Here's what's on while you're here.
