What's on in San Fernando

San Fernando — "La Isla" to locals — sits on an island in the salt marshes of the Bay of Cádiz, between Cádiz city and Chiclana. It's a town built on salt and the sea, with old salt pans, a naval history and a fierce flamenco tradition; the great singer Camarón de la Isla was born here. It's an unvarnished, working Andalusian town rather than a beach resort, though the long Camposoto beach lies on its edge.

That flamenco heritage runs deep, and the open-air La Isla Ciudad Flamenca festival is the highlight. Summer also brings the Bahía Sound music festival and beach club, a long-running night road race, and a Sherlock Holmes exhibition. Here's what's on while you're here.
