What's on in Torrevieja

Torrevieja is a big, year-round resort city on the southern Costa Blanca, built around the
sea and the salt. Its huge salt lakes — one a startling pink — are a working industry and
now a nature park, while the long promenade, marina and beaches draw an international
community that lives here as much as holidays here. It is busy, practical and unpretentious,
with daily markets, seafront dining and an outsized choral tradition: the town's Habaneras
competition each July is a genuinely international event, sung in the open-air Eras de la
