Summer at the MACA 2026
A summer program of activities at Alicante's Contemporary Art Museum (MACA), set in the historic Casa de la Asegurada beside the basilica. A relaxed, indoor cultural escape from the heat for art-curious visitors.
When the afternoon sun turns Alicante's old town into a furnace, the MACA is a sound bet. It sits in the Casa de la Asegurada, a stout 17th-century granary that's the oldest civil building in the city, right next to the Basilica of Santa María. Inside, the thick stone walls keep things cool, and the collection leans heavily on 20th-century Spanish names — Picasso, Miró, Dalí, Chillida and a generous Juana Francés bequest.
Across the summer the museum runs a programme of extra activities alongside the permanent rooms, the sort of thing that turns a quick look round into a proper hour or two out of the heat. Worth checking the schedule on the day, as the line-up shifts week to week. There's an admission charge, and the central courtyard is a pleasant spot to pause.
