Castell de l'Olla Fireworks Spectacle
Altea's signature event: a world-class fireworks display launched from floating platforms out at sea, its colours mirrored across the Mediterranean. Declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, it draws tens of thousands to the beachfront each year.
Altea times this one well. The pyrotechnics are fired not from land but from boats anchored out in the bay, so when the show begins the colours burst overhead and then again on the water below, doubled in the calm Mediterranean. The setting helps too: the old town's white houses and blue-tiled dome sit on the hill behind, and the long curve of beach fills with people staking out a patch of sand or shingle well before dark.
It started as a tribute to a local fireworks maker, and it's grown into the highlight of the summer calendar, drawing tens of thousands down to the front. Get there early, bring something to sit on, and don't expect to wander off quickly afterwards. It's free, it's loud, and watching the boats drift into position is half the fun.
