Les Ones - Street Dance Festival (6th Edition)
A three-evening open-air contemporary dance festival staged in Benidorm's old-town squares, with performances by Spanish dance companies and choreographers. The evening shows in the Plaça del Castell are free to watch and require no Spanish.
For three June evenings, Benidorm's old-town squares turn into open-air stages and the dancing starts around 8.30pm. The Thursday opener in the Town Hall square is the warmest, with local schools, the Benidorm Conservatory and the Alicante youth company sharing the bill alongside soloist Joel Mesa. After that it shifts to the Plaça del Castell, up by the lookout, where touring choreographers like Chey Jurado and the La Venidera company take over.
It's all contemporary dance, so don't expect flamenco castanets. What you get instead is a quiet bit of culture squeezed between the beach bars, free to watch and easy to follow without a word of Spanish. Come early if you want somewhere to sit. There are morning workshops too on the Friday and Saturday at the Centro Cultural, if you fancy joining in rather than just watching.
