Oscar Martin Young Theatre Showcase (28th Edition)

For a fortnight in June, Elche's Gran Teatro hands its stage to the city's teenagers, and the result is a lot more committed than you might expect. Pupils from local secondary schools and a handful of youth companies put on full productions, from Lorca's Blood Wedding to a Spanish staging of A Midsummer Night's Dream and a string of original pieces. Most shows start at 8pm, with the odd afternoon matinee, and the run ends with a closing gala on the 27th.

It's all in Spanish, so you won't catch every line, but the staging and the sheer nerve carry it. Tickets are free; you just pick up an invitation beforehand at the box office or through Vivaticket. Come for one evening or several, and expect a warm, partisan crowd of proud families filling the seats.
