5th Nit del So (Night of Sound) Drum Gathering
Eleven 'colles de tabals' (drum ensembles) from across Catalonia gather for an evening of percussion, building from staged performances to a thundering street procession that ends in a massed collective drumming finale. A free, visual and very loud night out that needs no translation.
The local devils' dance crew started this back in 2022 as a way to get percussion groups of every stripe in one square, and it has stuck. Things kick off around six in Plaça Catalunya, when the eleven colles roll in and warm up. From seven you get each ensemble doing its own thing in turn, from old-school Catalan tabalers out of villages like Alforja and Riudecanyes to noisier outfits such as ReuSamba and Salou Destroy Silence.
By quarter past eight they leave the square and drum their way through the streets, which is where it really comes alive. The procession winds back near ten, and then every group plays together at once for a final wall of noise. It is free, it is properly loud, and you do not need a word of Catalan to follow it. Bring earplugs if you are bringing kids.
