Virgen del Carmen 2026 — Roquetas de Mar
Almería's biggest resort town honours its patron of the sea with a major maritime procession of national renown.
Roquetas de Mar holds one of Almería's most celebrated Virgen del Carmen processions — recognised as being of National Tourist Interest. On 16 July the patron of fishermen is carried from the church through the old port quarter and out to sea aboard a flotilla of fishing boats, escorted by smaller craft, with thousands lining the harbour and the long seafront to watch.
What to expect. A big, well-organised maritime fiesta in the busy heart of the Costa de Almería's main resort — procession and sea-blessing in the evening, music and fireworks to follow. Dates track the saint's day; confirm the programme locally before travelling.
Practical bit. Roquetas sprawls along several kilometres of coast, from the old port to the Urbanización resort strip and the Punta Entinas–Sabinar nature reserve. A hire car makes getting between them — and out to Almería city, the Cabo de Gata coves and the desert film sets at Tabernas — straightforward.
