Medieval Discovery Fair (Feria Medieval del Descubrimiento)
The whole old town of Palos travels back to the late 1400s for a free open-air medieval fair marking the return of the Columbus expedition. Expect hundreds of costumed performers, craft and food stalls, bagpipers, medieval combat and fire shows, and activities for children.
Palos was where the Niña and Pinta came home in 1493, and once a year the old town leans hard into that. The lanes around San Jorge fill with more than 200 traders' stalls, and a parade of some 400 costumed locals winds through at midday, banners and all. Wander between the leatherworkers and candle-makers, watch a medieval tournament play out, catch some theatre on a street corner, and let the kids loose on the craft workshops.
It runs over two days, usually in mid-March, near the anniversary of the caravels' return. Entry is free, the food stalls are part of the fun, and the whole thing has the slightly chaotic, lived-in feel of a town that actually enjoys doing this. Worth an afternoon if you're on the Costa de la Luz around then. Do double-check the dates before you set off.
