Virgen del Carmen 2026 — Punta Umbría
Huelva's favourite beach town stops for its patron of the sea: a boat procession across the ría and a local holiday.
Punta Umbría grew up as a fishing village on the ría across from Huelva city, and the Virgen del Carmen is woven into its identity. On 16 July — a local holiday here — her image is carried to the harbour and taken out on a procession of decorated boats along the water, watched from both banks, with the day rounded off by music and fireworks.
What to expect. A heartfelt, small-town maritime fiesta on one of the Costa de la Luz's nicest stretches of coast — long Atlantic beaches, pine-backed dunes and a relaxed, mostly-Spanish holiday crowd.
Practical bit. This corner of Huelva province is under-served by public transport and rewards exploring — the Flecha del Rompido sandbar, El Portil and the Doñana fringe are all close by. A hire car (Faro and Seville airports both feed this coast) makes the area genuinely easy to reach and to roam.
