Music in the Courtyard: Tres Fan Ball (Valencian Folk)
An open-air summer concert in the courtyard of the Massamagrell Cultural Centre, part of the free 'Música al Pati' series. Tres Fan Ball, a leading Valencian folk band, brings traditional regional sounds to a balmy late-evening setting.
The courtyard of Massamagrell's Centre Cultural makes a fine spot for an evening like this. Stone walls hold the day's warmth, the light drops slowly, and a Valencian folk band sets up under it. Tres Fan Ball play traditional regional music built around the dolçaina and tabal, the reedy pipe and drum you hear at village fiestas across this coast, with songs meant to get people up and dancing rather than just sitting politely.
You won't catch the lyrics, but that hardly matters; this is music you feel more than follow. It's one of four free nights in the town's June "Música al Pati" series, so the crowd is mostly locals out for the evening rather than tourists. Turn up early, as it runs until the courtyard fills and there are no tickets to fall back on. Bring a fan if it's a hot one.
