Copa de la Mediterrania Open Water Swim (23rd Edition)
Moncofa hosts the closing race of the provincial open water swimming series, drawing over 300 swimmers to its Blue Flag beach. A lively seaside spectacle on the August 15 holiday, with online sign-up for those who want to compete.
Every 15 August, while the rest of the coast is dozing through the holiday, Moncofa's Blue Flag beach turns into a starting line. This is the final leg of the provincial Copa de la Mediterrania, a seven-race circuit that runs through eight Castellon towns over the summer, and it pulls in more than 300 swimmers from across the Valencian Community for the closing dash through open water.
You don't need to swim to enjoy it. Walk down to the shore in the morning and you'll find the usual mix of nervous warm-ups, families staking out spots on the sand, and a fair bit of cheering as the field churns out and back. Entrants can sign up online for the Moncofa leg alone or buy a circuit pass that comes with a bib number and a welcome gift. Watching costs nothing, and the cafes along the front do brisk trade once everyone's out of the sea.
