Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken International Festival
The long-running international jazz festival brings concerts to squares and theatres across Las Palmas each July, mixing leading international names with emerging talent, plus jam sessions and master classes. Many open-air shows are free - an easy, low-barrier evening out for visitors.
Now in its 35th year, this is one of the Canaries' best-loved music dates, and it spreads itself generously. Big rooms like the Teatro Cuyás host the headline acts - past editions have drawn the likes of Jacob Collier playing with the Gran Canaria Philharmonic, Tigran Hamasyan and José James - while smaller spots such as El Rincón del Jazz keep things close and easy. The programme leans well beyond straight-ahead jazz, with plenty of artists folding in rock, soul and whatever else takes their fancy.
What makes it kind to a casual visitor is the open-air side. Several concerts in the squares are free, so you can wander up, find a spot, and stay as long as the music holds you. Check the ticketed listings ahead if there's a name you want to catch, since those rooms fill.
