Las Breñas Patron Saint Fiestas (San Luis Gonzaga)
The village of Las Breñas celebrates its patron saint San Luis Gonzaga with a week of traditional games and music. The highlight is the Víctor Fernández Gopar folklore encounter on Friday 19 June (featuring parranda Janubio, marking 40 years, plus Acatife), followed by the religious procession on Sunday 21 June from 7pm with the Municipal Band and folk group Rubicón.
Las Breñas is a quiet inland village in the south of Lanzarote, and for one week each June it lets its hair down for San Luis Gonzaga. The bill runs on music, sport and a good dose of humour, with traditional Canarian games and tournaments getting things going before the big nights arrive.
The folklore evening on Friday 19 June is the one to circle. It centres on a tribute to local poet and salt-maker Víctor Fernández Gopar, with host band Parranda Janubio marking forty years on stage alongside Acatife and soloist Elieser Betancort, then dancing into the night with Malpeis and Son de Norte. Sunday closes things off with the religious service and procession from 7pm, the Municipal Band and folk group Rubicón filling the streets. It is all free, and refreshingly local.
