29th Miguel Angel Mesa Folklore Festival
The 29th edition of this traditional Canarian folk festival features ensembles Agrupacion Folklorica I'Gara and Agrupacion Folklorica Chisaje performing local music and dance. A free chance to experience authentic island folklore in Cabo Blanco.
This is the sort of evening you won't find on the tourist trail. Two local groups, I'Gara and Chisaje, take the stage at the Cabo Blanco civic centre to play and dance the music of the islands: timples, guitars, the sway of folk costume, songs handed down rather than written for visitors. It runs the same as it has for nearly thirty years, by and for the people of Arona.
Things kick off at 9pm on Saturday 20 June, and it's free. Worth knowing that seats are limited, so turn up in good time if you'd rather not stand at the back. Don't expect polish or English commentary; this is the real thing, warm and unhurried, and all the better for it.
