What's on in Almuñécar
Almuñécar is the main town of the Costa Tropical, a stretch of Granada coast where the climate is warm enough to grow custard apples and mangoes on the hillsides behind the beaches. It's an old Phoenician and Roman settlement — there's a castle on the headland and Roman ruins around town — with a pebbly seafront and a steep, lived-in old quarter that stays Spanish in feel.
Its patron-saint Fiestas de la Virgen de la Antigua anchor the year, while summer fills with the Jazz en la Costa festival, SexiFest, and a Greco-Roman theatre festival staged among the old stones. Here's what's on while you're here.
