What's on in Antigua

Antigua is a quiet inland municipality in the middle of Fuerteventura, away from the big beach resorts, centred on a small church town and dotted with the restored windmills that once ground the island's grain. It stretches east to the coast at Caleta de Fuste, a calmer, family-friendly resort, but the heart of it is rural and dry, a place of goats, gofio and old agricultural traditions. The island's craft and cheese museum sits just outside the village.

The year's biggest event is FEAGA, Fuerteventura's agriculture, livestock and fishing fair, a genuinely local affair of prize goats, cheese and country produce. Midsummer brings the San Juan bonfire night at Pozo Negro, and there's a free summer sports programme for visitors. Here's what's on while you're here.
