What's on in Breña Alta
Breña Alta is a green hillside municipality just above Santa Cruz de la Palma, on the gentler eastern side of La Palma. It climbs from near the sea up into pine forest and old farmland, with scattered hamlets, dragon trees and a long tradition of growing tobacco and making the island's famous puro cigars. It's a quiet residential and rural place rather than a destination in itself, handy for the capital and the walking country above.
Local life shows in its events: the Agromercado farmers' market at Parque Los Álamos for island produce, the Breña Alta Trail mountain race up through the hills, and the wine-and-food Encuentro Enogastronómico pairing local bottles with cooking. Here's what's on while you're here.
