What's on in Breña Baja

Breña Baja is the lower, coastward neighbour of Breña Alta on La Palma's eastern flank, running from the airport and the resort area of Los Cancajos up into green farmland. Los Cancajos, with its black-sand bays and snorkelling, is about as close to a beach resort as this rugged island gets, but step inland and you're quickly among banana plantations, small villages and quiet lanes. It makes an easy base near the capital and the airport.

The village's San Antonio de Padua fiesta brings the community together for a shared paella and a closing concert, and there's a painting exhibition by Gloria Valiente, "Gifts of Nature". Walkers can join the guided hike to Barbuzano. Here's what's on while you're here.
