What's on in Carboneras

Carboneras is a working fishing town on the wild Cabo de Gata coast in Almería, set on a bay backed by arid, dramatic hills and the desert badlands that have stood in for the American West in countless films. It has a real, unpolished feel — a harbour, a power station on the edge of town and a long beach — with the spectacular protected coves of the Cabo de Gata natural park just to the south at Playa de los Muertos.

The town's big celebration is the Moors and Christians fiesta, staged with a dramatic Berber landing on the beach, tied to San Antonio de Padua.
