What's on in Casares
Casares is the classic white hill village of the western Costa del Sol, its houses spilling down a steep ridge beneath a ruined Moorish castle, with the sea glinting in the distance and the mountains of the Sierra Bermeja behind. Inland and a short drive up from the coast at Estepona, it's the birthplace of the Andalusian nationalist Blas Infante and a fine spot for walking, with vultures wheeling over the crags. The newer Casares Costa sits down by the beaches.
The village stages a medieval market that fills the old streets, and the Noche de San Juan brings midsummer bonfires for the longest nights of the year. Here's what's on while you're here.
