Cullera is a Valencian resort town south of the city where the Júcar river meets the sea, set beneath a hill topped by a castle and a lighthouse with wide coastal views. It has a long sandy beach and a busy summer feel, plus rice fields inland and a curious wartime relic — a 1938 air-raid shelter you can visit at the lighthouse viewpoint.
