What's on in El Ejido

El Ejido is a large, modern agricultural town on the plain west of Almería, the centre of the famous "sea of plastic" — the vast sprawl of greenhouses that grows much of Europe's winter veg. It's not a pretty place in the postcard sense, but it's a real working town, and its coast tells a different story: down at Almerimar there's a big marina and resort, and the protected dunes and cliffs of Punta Entinas-Sabinar run along the shore.

Farming pride shows in the first Melon and Watermelon Fair, while the San Isidro Labrador festivities honour the patron of farmers. Down on the coast, El Ejido al Natural brings an open-air music festival to Almerimar. Here's what's on while you're here.
