What's on in Güímar

Güímar sits in a broad, sunny valley on the east coast of Tenerife, an old town better known to locals than to tourists. Its famous oddity is the Pirámides de Güímar, the stepped stone terraces that Thor Heyerdahl championed as ancient pyramids, and behind the town the dry Malpaís badlands run down to a small working coast at El Puertito.

The town's biggest date is the Fiestas de San Pedro Apóstol, its patron-saint festival, which fills the streets with the usual mix of processions, music and fireworks. Here's what's on while you're here.
