What's on in San Miguel de Abona

San Miguel de Abona is an old hill town in the south of Tenerife, set above the resorts of the coast with views down to the sea and across to La Gomera. The historic centre, around its 18th-century church, keeps a traditional Canarian feel that the holiday strip below has long since lost, with vineyards and almond groves on the surrounding slopes.

Its fiestas are properly local. The Romería de San Miguel is a country pilgrimage with ox-carts, folk costume and shared food, part of the patron saint festivities for San Miguel Arcángel. Canary Islands Day adds another night of island music and tradition. Here's what's on while you're here.
