8th Rodeo Film Fest – Short Film Festival
A short-film festival held over four nights in the atmospheric cave-dwelling complex of Cuevas del Rodeo. An open-air cultural evening in a unique troglodyte setting, though screenings are likely in Spanish.
Rojales has a quirk worth knowing about: the Cuevas del Rodeo are old cave dwellings carved into the rock, now home to artisans' workshops and a small cultural scene. For four nights in late August, the place turns into an open-air cinema, with short films screened against the stone. It's the eighth year they've done it, so the locals have the format down to a fine art.
Be warned that most of the shorts run in Spanish, often without subtitles, so you'll need a bit of the language or a relaxed attitude to follow along. Even so, the setting alone makes for a curious evening out, and shorts are forgiving things to watch when you're catching maybe two words in three. Bring something warm for when the cave cools down after dark.
