Fiesta del Carmen (Virgen del Carmen Celebration)
San Fulgencio's mid-July patronal celebration in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, with a novena, solemn masses, a candlelit praise procession through the streets, a local choir concert and community cultural activities. The street processions and outdoor evenings are easy to enjoy without Spanish, though much of the programme is religious and community-focused.
San Fulgencio marks its patron saint each July with a stretch of evenings built around the feast of the Virgen del Carmen on the 16th. Much of it is genuinely devotional, a nine-day novena and solemn masses at the parish church, but the streets fill up too. The big draw is the praise procession, when the Virgin's image is carried out and the town follows behind. You'll also catch a pasacalles with dulzaina-and-drum music and oversized carnival figures wandering through.
If religion isn't your thing, plenty here isn't church-bound: an open-air choir serenade, a rock night at the Plaza del Mercadillo, a vintage-car gathering and a late-evening DJ set near the sports centre. Timing shifts year to year, so treat mid-July as your window and check the local programme once you're there. Street events are free.
