Mediterranean Guitar Festival: Carlos Coronado
A classical and Mediterranean guitar recital by Carlos Coronado inside the Gothic Basílica de Santa Maria in the historic old town. An intimate, atmospheric evening concert in one of the Costa Brava's finest churches.
Castelló d'Empúries keeps one of the Costa Brava's loveliest old towns, and its Gothic basilica is the kind of place that does most of the work before a note is played. High stone, long echoes, the cool of thick walls after a hot day. Carlos Coronado sits with a single guitar at the front and lets it carry.
The programme leans classical with a Mediterranean accent, and the room's natural acoustics suit it well. You hear the strings clearly, plus the small human sounds of fingers shifting on frets. The concert starts at 9pm, once the evening has cooled. Tickets are sold through the festival, with prices not listed here, so book ahead if you fancy it. Worth the short walk into the historic centre even on a warm June night.
