San Pedro del Pinatar Patron Saint Festival (Fiestas Patronales)
San Pedro del Pinatar's main town fiesta runs for over two weeks, opening with a noisy 'chupinazo' rocket launch in Plaza Luis Molina and filling the fairgrounds with free open-air concerts (La Guardia, Orquesta La Mundial, Los Happys), DJ nights and family activities. It builds toward the patron saint day on 29 June.
This is the town letting its hair down for the best part of a fortnight, and you don't need to follow every word of Spanish to enjoy it. It opens on 12 June with the chupinazo in Plaza Luis Molina, a rocket and a burst of fireworks by the town hall that signals weeks of late nights ahead. Most of the action then shifts to the fairgrounds, where twenty neighbourhood barracas (little association-run bars) serve drinks and the open-air stage runs free concerts: La Guardia, Orquesta La Mundial, Los Happys, a K-pop tribute and reggaeton battles among them.
It all builds to 29 June, San Pedro's day, with a Mass and a procession run by the local brotherhood. Like most Spanish fiestas, the fairground really comes alive late, so save your energy for the evening rather than the afternoon. Most events cost nothing, so wander in and see what's on.
