XVI Tapa Route 'Sabor Frontera'
Fourteen bars and restaurants across town serve specially-created tapas for 3.50 EUR each over three weeks. Collect at least seven stamps and rate the tapas to enter a prize draw, including a Guadiana river cruise with a seafood lunch for two.
Ayamonte sits right on the Guadiana, with Portugal just across the water, and from 10 to 30 June the town turns its bars over to the business of eating well for very little. Fourteen kitchens each put up a tapa made for the occasion, priced at 3.50 EUR, so you can graze your way from one to the next without much thought for the bill. Twelve are in the old centre and two down by the beach, and the dishes are built to show off local produce and a bit of the cooks' own invention.
Pick up a card at the tourist office, collect a stamp at each stop and rate what you eat. Manage seven and you're in the prize draw. It's a low-key, genuinely local affair, and a good excuse to wander streets you'd otherwise breeze past.
