What's on in Ayamonte

Ayamonte sits at the very western edge of Spain on the Costa de la Luz, right on the Guadiana river that marks the border with Portugal — the Algarve is a short ferry hop or a bridge away. It's an old fishing and trading port with a tiled, faded-elegant old town climbing the hill above the marina, and a Portuguese flavour to its tiles, tuna and cooking. The broad Atlantic beaches at Isla Canela and Punta del Moral are a few minutes south.

This is a town to eat and wander in, and that comes through in its events: the "Sabor Frontera" tapas route trades on its border food, there's an art exhibition by Ángel D'Esury, and Saint John's Eve is marked in the Santa Gadea quarter. Here's what's on while you're here.
