Pedregals Beach Festival (Festes dels Pedregals)
The beachfront Pedregals neighbourhood throws its own summer fiesta with the open-air Ruta del Meló (free melon tasting along the bars), street dinners, live folk music with dolçaina and tabal, and midnight mobile discos. A relaxed, walk-up beach-village celebration over two July weekends.
This is the sort of thing the Pedregals locals put on for themselves, and you're welcome to wander in. The melon route is the bit to catch: from around half eight on the Friday, the bars hand out free slices of melon as you stroll between the social centre, Bar Torres and Carrer Fàtima. It's daft and lovely in equal measure, and a fine excuse to drift along the seafront with a cold drink.
Beyond that, expect long street suppers laid out near the sand, a paella cook-off where neighbours take it seriously, and the squeal of the dolçaina and thump of the tabal as the La Festa folk group does its rounds. When the older crowd heads home, the mobile disco rolls in for a late one. It usually runs over two July weekends, though dates shift year to year, so check locally before you go.
