5th Meliana Tomato Fair
A village square fair celebrating Meliana's locally grown tomatoes, with direct sales from six local farmers, oil tastings, chef demonstrations of tomato dishes, a traditional snail feast and live music. Children's seed-planting workshops and a charity market for a cancer association round out the day.
Meliana takes its tomatoes seriously, and for one Saturday in June the Plaça Major fills with six local growers selling theirs straight off the crate. You can put a name to most of them, which tells you something about how small and how proud this is. Cooks from a handful of village restaurants turn the same fruit into tastings paired with oil and local beer, and a nutritionist gives a short talk on why it's all rather good for you. There's a photo booth, woodland games and a "plant your own tomato" workshop to keep children busy.
As the day cools the second Caragolà takes over: live music, showcooking and great pans of Valencian snails, with money going to a cancer charity. Entry is free, and it's an easy, genuinely local afternoon.
