Sastre Ferrando 5k & 10k Run

Benicarló puts on this evening road race in June, now in its second year, named after two local running champions, Alexis Sastre and Cristina Ferrando. You pick your distance — a 5k or the full 10k — and the whole thing sets off and wraps up at Plaça de la Constitució, right in the town centre, so there's no awkward trek to some industrial estate on the edge of town.

Entry is ten euros, and there are separate children's races, which makes it a sociable family affair rather than a po-faced PB chase. Running in the cool of the evening is the smart move here in late June, and finishing back in the square means a cold drink and a sit-down are never far off. Worth a go if you fancy stretching your legs and seeing a coastal town in holiday mood.
