Titéres a la Mar International Puppet Festival (22nd edition)
A week-long open-air international puppet festival with nightly free shows by Spanish and visiting companies, staged in the lighthouse gardens, on the beachfront and in the town squares. Easy to enjoy with kids and no Spanish needed for the visual, mime-style performances.
For six evenings in mid-July, Oropesa del Mar hands a string of its squares and gardens over to puppets. Most shows start at ten, after the heat has eased, moving between the lighthouse gardens, Plaza Mallorca and the gardens by the tourism office. Spanish and visiting companies take turns: paper-theatre kamishibai, a staging of The Little Prince, and a procession of giant insects that winds through the crowd. Nearly all of it is mime and movement, so the language barrier simply isn't there.
Entry is free, though a couple of the lighthouse-garden shows mid-festival want you to register beforehand at the tourism office site. Bring the kids, find a low wall to perch on, and let the sea breeze do the rest. It's a gentle, low-key thing rather than a spectacle, and better for it.
